Ghee stuffed dates are a simple and satisfying sweet treat, perfect for Valentines Day.
To sweeten ghee without any sugar, we added the most delicious Butterscotch Stevia for an extra caramel flavor. We love infusing our ghee with herbs, especially adaptogens like Shatavari. Shatavari is a medicinal plant that’s prized in Ayurveda, and it’s name translates as “she who has hundreds of husbands.” That sounds like a lot, to us at least. But we believe this lore is alluding to the plant’s aphrodisiac properties and affinity toward the female reproductive system. The root of the plant is used to promote reproductive health (males included), a healthy libido, hormone balance, and milk production. It also works to boost the immune system, energy levels, and to soothe the digestive system.
A great way to maximize the aphrodisiac properties is by adding a bit of warming spices like cardamom, cinnamon or even a pinch of ginger to your ghee to support the circulatory system, making sure blood is moving to all the right places. Once you’ve got your ghee, feel free to make the recipe your own by adding in the spices you love. Whether you share these with your lover or enjoy alone, you’re in for a special treat.
- 10 medjool dates
- ¼ cup ghee, softened at room temp
- ½-1 teaspoon organic shatavari powder
- 2 drops Omica Butterscotch Stevia
- Pinch of cardamom, cinnamon or ginger powder
- Fresh orange or lemon zest, optional
First, slice your date just enough to remove the pit, but not slicing all the way through. You can either buy ghee pre-made or make it on your own. For instructions on making ghee, see our recipe here. Soften the ghee a bit so you can easily mix in your powdered herbs, spices + orange zest, then add in the stevia and taste. Adjust and add more stevia or spices if you’d like. Once you’ve got your ghee mixture ready, take a small spoon and fill your dates with about ½ a teaspoon of ghee. Serve on a plate and dust with more citrus zest, dried rose petals, extra spices or toasted coconut flakes. Store in the fridge.
